Mission & Abroad

Our Mission

History
The Nazareth Sisters have extended their services to North India. Their first mission outside Kerala was at Lemberi in Rajouri district, a remote village of Jammu Srinagar diocese. For several years, the Nazareth sisters served this area's poor people under the guidance of CMI fathers.

The second mission station was the Dansal mission, which started on July 03 1999. It was a milestone in the history of the Nazareth Sisters. Dansal is a hilly area in Jammu district that is 30 km away from Jammu city. Rev. Fr. Joseph Koovackal of Jammu Srinagar diocese and our pioneer sisters worked hard to develop this mission. We focused mainly on education and social work to bring the local people into the mainstream. Project-based programmes were organized for the marginalized and downtrodden women and children of the local Society. Holy Trinity Convent School was opened on August 02 1999, by the Jammu -Srinagar diocese.  Our sisters have served as administrators and teachers since the school's foundation. The diocese of Jammu & Srinagar manages the church, social work activities, and school.

Jaswantnagar and Ujjain Mission

The Nazareth Sisters came into existence at Jaswantnagar in the Etawah mission on June 22. 2009. It is a mission of Changanachery Archdiocese and is in the diocese of Agra. Our sisters provided services in the education field with the help of diocesan fathers. The Sisters commenced teaching at St. Peter's School from June 2009 onwards. Jaswantnagar is a remote village in Uttar Pradesh. The People depend on agriculture for most of their income. They usually do not send their children to school. Instead, they assist their parents in grazing their cattle, so the sisters visit the families in the villages and motivate the children to attend school.  Nazareth Sisters started a new mission station in 2018 at Nagalagadarian near Jaswantnagar, Etawah. We are engaged in different social activities here, including educational services,   informal coaching classes for poor children, awareness programmes for women, and parish ministry.  Since 2019, we have been involved in parish and School ministries in the Diocese of Ujjain. We do these activities in collaboration with MST Fathers.

Germany (Saarland)

History

The Nazareth Sisters began their nursing care and services in Germany on November 01 1998. This resulted from the goodwill, interest, and generous help of Rev. Fr. Joseph Karinattu, former Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Tellicherry. The Congregation sent the pioneer sisters Sr. Little Rose, Sr. Retty, Sr. Linta Maria and Sr. Seenia. Rev. Sr. Maria Basina Kloos, Franciscan Sisters in Germany and Sr. Savio MSMI helped these sisters to start their service in an entirely different place. After four years of living in Germany, in 2002, the SVD (Society of the Divine Word) fathers helped the sisters to get a convent at St. Wendel. With the assistance and support of SVD fathers and Rev. Sr. Maria Basina Kloos, our sisters learnt the German language and started their nursing service. Presently, we have four houses in Germany. The other three are at Saarbrucken, Altenwoog St. Wendel and Puttlingen. All these houses are located in the Trier Diocese. The sisters find time to participate in the parish ministries.
